Creative Meaning: The Power of Everyday Routines
💜💚💜💚💜💚💜
I have always been what some might call a “night owl.” Staying up late seems to be ingrained in who I am—though I’ll admit, I tend to push the boundaries, often staying up far later than I should. Sleep doesn’t come easily for me. The moment I lay my head on the pillow, my mind begins to race, as if it’s suddenly decided it’s the perfect time to solve every unanswered question or reanalyze the day’s events. It could be due to overstimulation—the endless stream of information and tasks we all face—or maybe it’s simply the way I’m wired, a part of my unique chemical makeup.
Interestingly, waking up in the morning isn’t the challenge one might expect. Once I’m up, I don’t struggle much with grogginess—unless, of course, I make the conscious choice to indulge in a little rebellion against the day and refuse to get out of bed. When I do rise, I follow a routine. It’s not always identical, but there are certain motions I go through that set the tone for the hours ahead. These steps may seem small or inconsequential, but I’ve noticed that when I stick to them, my days run much smoother. The difference is evident .
Streaming, in particular, requires a balance of spontaneity and structure, and my routines provide the framework that allows me to be fully present when I’m live. Life can be unpredictable—unexpected challenges, changes in plans, or even just the emotional rollercoaster of being human. Having these moments of structure, these anchors, allows me to feel grounded. They help create the mental space I need to adapt to the dynamic and sometimes chaotic nature of being live on stream.
But it’s not just about control—it’s also about mental clarity. Following my routines helps my mind feel sharper, more focused, and better equipped to tackle the tasks ahead. It’s as if going through those familiar motions clears away the mental clutter, making room for precision and creative thinking. On the days when I deviate from these rituals, the difference is stark. The mental fog is thicker, decision-making is slower, and everything feels just a little harder to manage.
What’s fascinating is how something as simple as a routine can have such a profound impact. These daily steps, which might seem mundane to an outside observer, have the power to transform how I engage with the world. They’re a reminder that while I can’t control everything, I can control how I begin and end my day. And in doing so, I create the mental and emotional space needed to navigate life—and streaming—with a little more grace and ease.
